Remington announced last week it was moving production of its Bushmaster semi-automatic and R1 lines to Huntsville. Six other Remington properties will be closed with operations moved to the Alabama site.
Work from Advanced Armament Corp. in Lawrenceville, Georgia; Montana Rifleman in Kalispell, Montana; TAPCO in Kennesaw Georgia; LAR Manufacturing in West Jordan, Utah; Para-Ordnance in Pineville, North Carolina; and DPMS in St. Cloud, Minnesota, will be relocated to Huntsville in the move, company officials said
In Minnesota, where the company makes AR-15 rifles for the U.S. military, Remington will close its St. Cloud facility and eliminate 68 jobs. The Star-Tribune reports the company notified the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development that it would idle 34 workers, half of them involved in assembly, in September and the rest in early January.
In that letter, Remington said the Minnesota layoffs are "expected to be permanent," adding "This is a nonunion facility and the employees have no bumping (a process where senior workers are allowed to take the spot of junior employees) rights."
DPMS was sold to Remington in 2007.
This is what happens when a solid company builds a stellar reputation and then gets sold to a corporation that will utilize cost cutting measures to increase profits which results in degradation of the quality of the products that the reputation was built on in the first place. I report at this time I no longer recommend DPMS.
I will still order them for my customers that want them. I may still offer them when I find closeouts and specials but I will not actively stock them anymore.
